Dr. Pei Te Hurinui Jones (JP, DHons, OBE), was a noted Māori scholar and advisor to the Kīngitanga, and a respected leader in the revival and retention of the Māori language, cultural knowledge and heritage in the 20th century. Pei Te Hurinui Jones is unparalleled amongst Māori authors. His depth of understanding, his breadth of subject-matter coverage, and his dedication to recording Māori and in particular Tainui and Kīngitanga history, underscore the significant contribution that he made to the Māori world.
